“I visited Josh for a deep tissue massage. That evening I had a very good sleep. The next day I expected painful muscles but the aches were a lot less than normal and I even walked about 2.5 miles with a lot less pain in my knees.”

The starting point

How I approach sports massage

I don't see sports massage as simply lying on a table, having someone work on a tight muscle and then being sent away.

I personalise the treatment to the person in front of me and what they're trying to achieve. That could be someone training regularly, preparing for an event, playing sport, going to the gym or simply wanting to feel more comfortable and move better.

I'll consider what you're doing, your training and activity load, recovery and what you're experiencing – rather than just treating the area that feels tight.

Massage can absolutely be useful, but I want to be honest about what it can and can't do. It's not necessarily the thing that fixes the problem.

How we work

What a session looks like

Understand what you're training for

Your activity load, recovery and what you're experiencing, not just the area that feels tight.

Hands on work, personalised

Sports massage, deep tissue work, acupuncture and dry needling, used where they'll actually help.

Honest about what massage can do

It can be genuinely useful, but it isn't necessarily the thing that fixes the problem on its own.

Combined with the wider picture

Where appropriate, exercise, movement advice and addressing what is actually contributing to the problem.

Real people, real recovery

When hands on work is part of a bigger plan

Massage settles things. Understanding why keeps them settled.

  • Immediate relief from hands on treatment
  • An explanation of why it keeps returning

Common questions

What is the difference between sports massage and deep tissue?
Sports massage is generally geared around training and recovery, deep tissue focuses on sustained pressure through deeper layers to release long standing tension. In practice we combine both based on what you need.
Does it hurt?
It can be intense in places but should never be unbearable. Pressure is always adjusted to what works for you.
Do I need to be an athlete?
Not at all. Most of the people we see are dealing with desk based tension, general stiffness or simply want to move more comfortably.
How often should I come?
Some people benefit from maintenance every four to six weeks. Others need a short course to settle something specific. We will be honest about which applies.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly.
