Knee pain that stops you doing what you love.
Knees complain when the demand placed on them outstrips what they are currently prepared for. Knowing which you are dealing with changes the plan entirely.

“Having suffered from knee pain for several years and finding that it was now affecting my daily activities I felt that it was time to get it sorted. I cannot recommend Josh highly enough.”
How I approach knee pain
I see a range of knee problems, including patellofemoral pain, arthritis, meniscal injuries, dislocations and acute sporting injuries such as ACL injuries.
The approach depends on what we find. An acute injury needs a different approach to pain that has been present for a long time, but in both situations I want to understand the whole picture rather than simply treating the knee in isolation.
I'll look at things such as strength, movement, activity, loading capacity and what you want to get back to doing.

Common presentations
Treatment is personalised rather than generic. The approach depends entirely on what we find.
Patellofemoral pain
Pain around or behind the kneecap, often worse on stairs, hills and after sitting.
Arthritis
Manageable with the right loading. Strength and capacity matter far more than what a scan shows.
Meniscal injuries
Frequently manageable without surgery, depending on how the knee responds to graded loading.
ACL and acute sporting injuries
Accurate assessment at the start shapes the whole rehabilitation timeline and return to sport.
Progressive loading, properly structured
The part most rehab skips. Strengthening through the knee, hip and ankle that restores genuine capacity.

“I'm so grateful to Josh. Having the opportunity to work with him to get my life back after my total hip replacement is amazing. Josh's kindness, listening skills, knowledge and natural curiosity.”
How we treat knee pain
Understand the whole picture
Strength, movement, activity, loading capacity and what you want to get back to doing.
Work out what the knee can tolerate
People often worry that using their knee is causing further damage. Understanding its actual capacity changes that.
Build strength and loading capacity
Gradually building strength, movement and capacity is a huge part of getting back to normal activity.
Hands on where it helps
Treatment can help you move more comfortably and build confidence, but the longer term focus is strength and capacity.
